BIRD boxes have been donated to a school.

The gift to Ysgol y Castell was given by Anwyl Homes.

As part of the planning agreement for Parc Tirionfa development in Rhuddlan, the housebuilder provided about £190,000 in community contributions towards education and £38,000 towards improving neighbourhood open space and provided funding to to the school allowing them to purchase new outdoor wash basins.

This year Anwyl has donated four large wooden bird houses to encourage nesting birds to make a home in the school grounds.

Vicki Cotgreave, headteacher, said: "The children at Ysgol y Castell were very excited to see the arrival of the wonderful bird boxes – they are now anxiously waiting to see which birds make their new homes in them.

"Everyone at school would like to say a big thank you to Anwyl Homes for their very kind gift.

"The children continue to make excellent use of the outdoor wash basins partly funded by Anwyl Homes and once again we are extremely grateful for their generosity.”

The gift was presented to mark the housebuilder selling the last home at the Parc Tirionfa development.

It was also part of Flintshire-based Anwyl’s pledge to provide 90 bird boxes to communities as part of its 90th anniversary celebrations.

Graeme Gibb, sales director for Anwyl Homes in North Wales, said: “We pride ourselves on creating partnerships with schools and community groups in the areas in which we build. At Parc Tirionfa we’ve provided funding as part of the planning agreement towards local education and open space. We’ve also built on this with additional donations to Ysgol y Castell towards new facilities to support both the children and local wildlife.

“Parc Tironfa has been a really successful development since its launch and it’s great to look back on the legacy it will leave for the local community.”
