A six-vehicle collision near Llanferres did not result in serious injuries, ambulance chiefs have said.
Traffic Wales announced details of the incident shortly before 7.50am on Wednesday.
A spokesman said: "A494 travelling in both directions prior to Llanferres blocked due to a multi-vehicle collision.
"Delays in the area."
Just before 9.20am, the spokesman added: "Emergency services are on scene directing traffic. Traffic is coping well in the area."
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called on Wednesday, May 5 at approximately 7.25am to reports of a road traffic incident involving up to six vehicles on the A494 near Llanferres.
"We responded with three emergency ambulances.
"Our crews assessed the people involved in the incident and confirmed that our services were not required as no serious injuries were identified.”
