The results were confirmed on Friday afternoon at Eirias Park in Colwyn Bay, where the vote counting process was carried out by Conwy County Borough Council.

Mr Millar, who was first elected to represent Clwyd West in the Senedd in 2007, said: "I'm delighted to have been re-elected for a fourth consecutive term by the people of Clwyd West. It's every bit as exciting to have secured a fourth election victory as it is the first!

"Over the next five years I intend to focus on the issues that matter to my constituents, including fighting for our NHS as we seek to secure improvements at the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, supporting local businesses to help them create well paid jobs, and working hard to secure a fairer funding for North Wales, which has been underfunded in the past.

"As always, I will continue to work of all of my constituents no matter where they live and regardless of whether they voted for me or not.”

The Labour vote in Clwyd West increased by nine per cent in Clwyd West, the highest vote recorded by the party in the constituency since 1999.

Mr Hurst said: “The highest Labour vote ever recorded in a Clwyd West Senedd election and the largest percentage increase is testament to the Clwyd West team.

“Whilst second place is disheartening, we must not lose sight of our gains.”
