A WREXHAM man's last words to his partner were 'I love you' before he was tragically found dead.

Tributes have been paid to Damien Jones, 30, who died suddenly on Tuesday at his home in Penycae.

Damien's loving partner, Amelia Louise, woke to find him unresponsive and "blue in the face" and fought through her shock to perform CPR for 20 minutes on Damien as their two young children watched on.

Despite her best efforts, Damien was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The family is currently waiting on the outcome of post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of Damien's death.

He had epilepsy, but it is not known if the condition was a factor in his death. Damien had attended Wrexham Maelor Hospital's A+E department on Saturday due to experiencing breathing difficulties, which had been put down to muscle soreness. The family has also confirmed he had tested Covid negative.

Devoted father of David-Lloyd, 5, and Esme-Rose, 3, Damien was one of six siblings and will be very sadly missed by all who knew him.

Paying a touching tribute to her partner of eight years, Amelia said: "He was king and I his queen, together forever we told one another.

"After trying for years to build a family, having lost several babies this was all Damien wanted, a life where he could be happy in himself and the people surrounding him.

"He just had the biggest heart and was so bubbly and laid back. He was an absolutely wonderful dad, especially to David-Lloyd who's autistic - Damien was his hero, their bond was so special."

She added: "His last words he spoke to me were 'I love you' at 1.30am on Tuesday - they will stay with me forever.

"I just feel numb at the moment, it doesn't seem real. I don't want to get out of bed in the morning but I have our two children who depend on me. I need to stay strong for them."

A GoFundMe page has set up by family friend Samantha Davies to support the family to help with the funeral costs.

Amelia said: "Damien was loved by so many people, and his heart had room for everyone. My friend Samantha started the fundraiser and I can't thank everyone enough for their donations and messages they've sent me over the past few days.

"David-Lloyd and Esme-Rose are all I have left of him and the fundraiser will ensure Damien gets the send of that he fully deserves."

The fundraising page describes Damien as a "top lad, the light of the party" and someone who "lit up everyone’s hearts with his laughter and character".

The fundraiser has been set up with an initial target of £950, which will help fund a white horse and carriage. Any additional any money raised over the amount needed for the full costs of the funeral will be donated to a charity fund of the family’s choice.

It has so far raised nearly £1,500 and can be donated to via https://bit.ly/3oeuiQr

Damien's funeral arrangements are yet to be determined, but Amelia says he will be buried in Pandy cemetery - next to the grave of the couple's still-born daughter, Ava-May.
