A WREXHAM cyclist is taking on a gruelling challenge this summer for a cause close to his heart.

Mark Parsons is embarking on a 1,900 mile challenge to raise much needed funds for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.

Taking on the mammoth bike ride from Lands End to John O’Groats - and back again - Mark will be one of the few cyclists to have ever completed one of the most UK’s toughest endurance rides within 18 days.

Cycling is certainly infectious in Mark’s family as he will be accompanied on one length of the country, over 900 miles, by his 13-year-old son and athlete, Jack.

Mark said: “The support both Jack and I have received from Kronospan and local businesses is making this challenge more tangible every day and giving me the motivation to raise as much money as possible for such a worthy cause close to my heart.”

MS is a complex and progressive neurological condition, which can affect the way people move, think, feel and see. An MS diagnosis is typically received in a person’s 20’s or 30’s – just when they might be embarking upon a career, or thinking of starting a family; and with it, brings much uncertainty for the future.

Chirk based factory, Kronospan has pledged its support to local cyclist in charity challenge.

Kronospan, Chirk Bistro and Morgans are some of the local businesses who have already joined Mark’s “200 club” sponsoring £200 or more to help cover the costs of the logistics to complete the challenge.

Mike McKenna Kronospan Chairman said, “Kronospan is delighted to support Mark and Jack in this exciting challenge which will raise vital funds for Multiple Sclerosis.

“We will be willing them on all the way there, and then back again.”

Mark and Jack have received further generous support from high energy food supplies, clothing and mechanical repairs to raffle prizes and vouchers from Tesco and its shoppers, One Planet Adventure, Body Perfect, Brunning and Price Restaurants and Chirk Castle.
