VISITORS to Bala Lake Railway can enjoy a free ride on one of its miniature locomotives at an upcoming event to be held this weekend.

The Bala ReRailed event will take place between 10am and 4pm on Saturday (June 12) and Sunday (June 13).

Guests can visit the Bala Town station site behind the Cinema for a special open day to promote the Railway's extension project and ride the first steam train to operate in Bala town since the closure of the standard gauge station in the 1960's.

There will be a 2’ gauge temporary track with one of the BLR’s resident locos in steam and offering rides in an open coach, as well as a 7.25” gauge miniature railway offering rides.

The BLR Trust display will showcase the extension plans and these will be revealed to the public for the first time this weekend!

Guided tours of the extension route will take place with Trust chairman Julian Birley starting from the existing Bala Pen y Bont terminus at 11:30am and 2pm.

Musical entertainment from a Mechanical Fairground Organ will also take place as well as a vintage vehicle display, including Ivo Peters' famous Bentley.

There will also be a free vintage bus link to and from Bala Pen-y-Bont station and a frequent steam train departures on the Bala Lake Railway between 10:10am and 4pm and vintage buses to town connect with trains. Normal fares apply on the trains.

Tea, coffee and cake stands and a BBQ stand also available on the day.

Entry and rides at the town site will be free during the event.

Covid safe requirements for social distancing will be in place, and numbers permitted on site may be limited at busy times.
