Ruthin Festival may have been postponed until next year but you can take a look back at its history with a special display in the town.

Old festival photos and programmes since the festival started in 1994, will be on display in what would have been the 2021 festival week between the June 26 and July 4.

The display will be at the town’s new community and arts centre – The Old Courthouse.

Festival chair Gwion Tomos-Jones said: "We were disappointed to have to postpone the festival until 2022, but this will be an opportunity for the local community to remember and share memories of the festival in previous years.

"The festival committee is made up fully of volunteers who freely give up their time to organise the festival, and we are all focused on organising a festival in 2022, in the hope that COVID-19 will be behind us by then."

The festival is a week long series of musical and cultural events at various venues in the town culminating in the well attended Top of Town event on the last Saturday of the week on St Peters Square with seven hours of music and dance for the whole community.

The festival was been postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as out of concern for the public’s health and safety, as well as the risks of planning an event in light of changing COVID restrictions. This is on the back of the 2019 event which was a major success, with the Top of Town event on the square full of people enjoying music by Bryn Fon and Candelas amongst many others.

"We are looking to secure the festival’s future sustainability, and looking at options to make the events greener and to have a more varied programme of events during the festival week," added festival Vice-Chair Jim Bryan.

"With the festival - rest assured, we will be back!"

The display will take place in the newly opened Old Courthouse in Ruthin Town Centre.

Following the closure of the NatWest Bank in Ruthin in 2017, The Old Courthouse (a 600 year old Mediaeval Grade II* Listed building) was purchased by Ruthin Town Council with the aim of creating a civic, community and visitor Hub in the heart of St Peter’s Square. The building is now fully refurbished and will be open for local art exhibitions and community events/displays.

The display will be open 10am-4pm every day of the week between June 26 and July 4 at the Old Courthouse.
