THE headteacher of a Denbighshire school once attended by Wales star Harry Wilson has expressed his pride at seeing him represent his country.

The Liverpool FC winger is currently playing for Wales at UEFA EURO 2020, with Rob Page's side set to face Denmark in the last 16 on Saturday.

24-year-old Wilson has impressed on loan at the likes of Hull City, Derby County, Bournemouth and most recently Cardiff City over the last few seasons.

But headteacher of Llangollen's Ysgol Dinas Bran, Mark Hatch, says the player has never forgotten where he came from.

He said: "We are all so proud to see Harry representing Wales at the Euros.

"He has never forgotten Ysgol Dinas Brân and is always happy to help and support us as a school at any opportunity he can.

"Harry was such a hardworking, dedicated, modest member of our school community and we are delighted that all his effort is paying off."

He added: "Harry kindly gave the school the jersey he wore when he made his debut against Belgium back in October 2013. The jersey is framed outside our PE Department and gives our pupils massive inspiration every day knowing that if you work hard enough, you can achieve anything.

"Well done Harry and the team, we are all looking forward to the next game!"

As well as this, Wilson also helped Corwen Juniors FC with getting back on their feet after severe flooding in 2019 - by donating a shirt to their auction which helped raise money.

The winger has earned 28 caps for Wales, scoring 5 times and holds the record as his country's youngest ever player to make an appearance after coming on v Belgium in 2013, aged just 16 years and 207 days old.

Euro 2020 is the first major tournament he has played at with Wales.
