SOME farmers are still not adhering to social distancing measures while attending livestock markets.

This is the message from Denbighshire County Council who have received reports about the matter.

Cllr Mark Young, the council’s Cabinet Lead Member for Safer Communities, said: “We are reminding farmers of the importance of adhering to social distancing measures while attending livestock markets and to also practice good hygiene.

“With the Delta variant now present in Denbighshire it is vital to act responsibly and to follow guidelines to help prevent further spread.

“The majority of farmers are following guidelines and we thank them for the part they are playing in protecting our communities.

“We have been working with livestock markets who have worked hard to ensure measures are in place to make it as easy as possible to follow regulations and keep safe.

“We would also remind people to follow Welsh Government and guidelines and to book a test if you develop any symptoms of Covid-19, including the new wider range of symptoms.”

Mari Dafydd Jones, FUW Denbigh and Flint county executive officer, said: "With restrictions around Covid-19 easing all over the country it can be easy to forget that the virus is still a major threat to our health.

"Failure to abide by the rules of social distancing and other safety measures risks people's lives, and risks seeing the authorities closing markets down at a critical trading time for the farming industry.

"This cannot be allowed to happen and for the sake of our industry and the welfare of those who work in it I would urge everyone to act responsibly and abide by the rules."

People can now have a free Covid-19 test if they have a wider range of symptoms which include flu-like symptoms, not caused by a known condition, muscle ache or pain, excessive tiredness, persistent headache, runny nose or blocked nose, persistent sneezing, sore throat and/or hoarseness, shortness of breath or wheezing and generally feeling unwell.

The local authority also supports the Covid-19 vaccination programme and would like residents to feel encouraged and supported to take up the vaccination if and when offered.
