The contractor for the first phase of an expansion of Denbigh's Colomendy Industrial Estate has been announced.

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has been chosen as the contractor for enabling works to facilitate the development of Denbighshire County Council’s new centralised waste depot.

The work also includes the wider expansion of the Industrial Estate on behalf of four existing businesses on the estate; Yard Space (Wales) Ltd, Henllan Bakery, Lock Stock Storage and Emyr Evans.

The council has been working in collaboration with these businesses who are expanding their current sites with work set to start on this first phase this summer.

Work will include earthworks, installation of drainage, utilities and access, including improvements to Graig Road.

The council’s new centralised waste depot will support the implementation of a new weekly recycling service, along with a four-weekly residual waste collection, during 2023, which will help increase recycling rates across the county.

Cllr Brian Jones, the council’s lead member for waste, transport and the environment, said: “This new centralised waste depot will contribute significantly to the council’s environmental ambitions as we will be using less fuel, recycling more waste and producing higher quality recycling suitable for use in the UK manufacturing industry.

“We are pleased to be working with Jones Bros on the first phase of the work which will help prepare the site for the construction phase.”

Geraint Lloyd, project manager at Ruthin-based Jones Bros, said: “We are excited to begin work on an important scheme in our home county.

“At the peak of the works, we will have 30 Jones Bros personnel on site, including a number of apprentices and trainees.

“We will be liaising closely with all businesses on the industrial estate to minimise disruption as much as possible.”
