PLAYERS at Corwen FC were 'left buzzing' after one of Wales’ UEFA Euro 2020 stars paid a visit to his hometown club this week.

Liverpool FC winger Harry Wilson grew up in the Denbighshire town of Corwen and is a former pupil of Llangollen's Ysgol Dinas Bran - where the shirt he wore for his first ever international cap v Belgium in 2013 proudly hangs on the wall today.

The Denbighshire Free Press received countless messages of support for the 24-year-old during Wales' time at Euro 2020.

Wilson had been part of Rob Page's Wales squad who once again defied the offs by progressing through a tough Group A made up of Switzerland, Turkey and Italy - only to be beaten 4-0 by Denmark in the round of 16.

Since making his debut in 2013, which at barely 16 years old made him the youngest player ever to represent Wales, he has earned 29 caps for his country, scoring five times.

As well as that, despite not yet breaking into Liverpool's first team at Anfield, he has impressed greatly whilst out on loan.

Wilson has had spells with Crewe Alexandra, Hull City, Derby County, Bournemouth and, most recently, Cardiff City, who he scored seven goals for last season.

But, he has never forgotten where he came from and regularly comes back to North Wales to throw his support behind local clubs and schools.

In 2019, he helped boost Corwen Juniors FC's fundraising drive to get facilities back up and running following a flood by donating a shirt to the cause.

In the lull between Wales' Euro 2020 and exit and Liverpool's pre-season preparations, Wilson returned home to Corwen on July 13 and spent time at the football club.

Corwen Football Club's Ian Evans said: "It was lovely to see Harry visit Dee Park last night and take some time for a picture with the lads, they were all buzzing after the visit.

"It's always lovely to see H and he will always get a warm welcome when he comes to see us at Corwen Football Club."
