A GROUP of pupils from Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy have been celebrating a double success thanks to a bit of Welsh folklore.

The Melangell class at the Corwen-based school won a Moondance Foundation prize and a further £900 in the Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative competition.

A spokesperson for the school said: "The children have really enjoyed the White Deer project. In this cross-curricular project, the children learned about the history of Llangar church by studying the legend of the White Deer.

"Data inquiry and analysis skills were developed by creating a questionnaire to measure how many people knew the story and the children visited the church at the end of the project.

"Learners developed an understanding of simple chronology and expressed opinions about whether the legend was true or not."

The school plans to sell Carw Gwyn books and bags, from the pupils' work, to share the story with a wider audience.
