WELSH Water have told residents of a Denbighshire village that they are “committed to resolving and finding a sustainable solution” to the water supply problems they have been experiencing.

Earlier this week, Clwyd West MS Darren Millar wrote to Welsh Water calling on them to urgently address frequent interruptions to water supply in Gwyddelwern.

Residents there are desperate for a solution to the ongoing issues they are experiencing with either loss of water completely or extremely low water pressure.

Last week, the water went off completely for the ninth time this year.

As a result, the company has now sent out a letter to the affected residents apologising for the disruptions and pledging to resolve the issues as soon as they can.

The letter states: “We understand that some customers in the Gwyddelwern area have been experiencing ongoing issues with intermittent interruptions to their water supply over recent months. We’d like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and want to assure you that we take our responsibility very seriously to provide a reliable, safe and clean drinking water supply to all of our customers.

“The water network in this area is a complex one and we have already tried various engineering solutions to try and improve the reliability of the water being supplied. We have monitored flows and tried to manage the pressure of the water network by installing 6 air valves to help avoid bursts which impact on supplies.

“However, we understand that some customers are still facing disruption to their supplies from time to time, and if you are affected then, we’d like to assure you that we are committed to resolving this and finding a sustainable solution. We are doing some further investigations, and once we have found a suitable solution, we will write to you again to let you know more about our plans and what you can expect. We’d like to say thank you in advance for bearing with us while we work to resolve the issue.”

Welcoming Welsh Water’s commitment to resolving the issues, Mr Millar said: “I am extremely pleased that Welsh Water have responded so quickly to the concerns I raised with them earlier this week and are committed to resolving the problems the residents of Gwyddelwern are experiencing.

“Hopefully the investigations that they are currently conducting will ensure that answers to the problems are found quickly. In 21st Century Wales, nobody should not have access to a clean water supply.”
