THE organisers of a Denbighshire festival at which a family was mown down by a runaway car in a terrifying accident have spoken of their 'devastation'.

The family had been enjoying themselves at the Conscious Tribal Gathering in Glyndyfrdwy near Corwen when an unoccupied car rolled down a hill towards the campsite.

Organisers of the event, which raises funds for people living with Albinism in Africa, have been left devastated by the incident which left Jenna O'Neill, 32, in a critical but stable condition in Stoke Hospital.

A statement from the organisers, issued on Facebook, read: “As some of you may be aware, there was a terrible accident on Saturday at our small family gathering.

“Everybody has been devastated by the incident. Our hearts and thoughts are with the family affected and we wish them a speedy and full recovery.

“We send thanks to all those that assisted on the scene.”

Mrs O'Neill is said to have suffered 'life-changing injuries' as a result of the accident.

She told the BBC that her husband, Stephen, was the 'hero' after it took place.

Speaking to the BBC, she said: “My two-and-a-half year old toddler only survived this incident because my husband threw her out of the way of the car as it careered down the road.

“He’s a hero. Things would be very different if it wasn’t for his quick-thinking and fast actions.”

The festival is located on farmland next to the 'Goddess' River Dee near Glyndyfrdwy and is a five-day event.

The incident took place on Saturday and both Stephen and the couple's daughter Ayla have since been discharged from Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

North Wales Police said officers were called to reports that an “unoccupied vehicle had rolled downhill over a tent at a campsite near Corwen”.

The force has launched an investigation and is liaising with the Health & Safety Executive.
