THE "REMARKABLE" Theatr Clwyd continues to go from strength to strength despite enduring one of its toughest ever periods.

Speaking with the Leader, Liam Evans-Ford, executive director of the Mold-based theatre, says people are in for a blockbuster year full of laughter and entertainment.

"We're so excited with what we have in store through the autumn and into the new year," he said.

"We have a mix of drama, comedy, dance and music, offering something for everyone from this September."

The 45-year-old theatre is to host its annual panto in the form of Beauty and the Beast (November 19 - January 15) and Curtain Up (August 18 – September 4), which sees 45 of Wales’ leading actors and writers come together to perform 15 new short plays over three weeks – each night audiences choose which actor plays which part and the props and costume they use.

Also in the calendar is a stage production of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic - the Hound of the Baskervilles, and Missing Julie (September 18 – October 9), a new adaptation of the classic Strindberg play by acclaimed playwright Kaite O’Reilly, sees classes collide in this passionate drama set in 1921 in a Welsh stately home.

Liam says since resuming indoor shows in May, the reaction from the public has been fantastic.

He said: "All our audiences have felt completely safe and there hasn't been a single Covid case linked to the theatre.

"The reaction has been brilliant - we've had sell out audiences, albeit at limited capacity. It's been evident just how much people love this theatre and how much they missed it during lockdown.

"Hopefully social distancing measures can soon be reduced to 1 meter or removed altogether so we can get back to full capacity in our theatres."

Liam says that even when social distancing rules come to an end, the theatre will put on specially socially distanced events so those who still feel anxious about mixing do not miss out.

And despite the impact of the pandemic, Liam says the theatre remains in a "relatively strong position" courtesy of the "amazing" support of the public.

He said: "We're looking ahead now to the redevelopment of the theatre which remains on track to start next year.

"We're here to serve you and hopefully bring some joy to the world - the messages of support you've sent us have kept us going.

"Please keep supporting us - spreading the word of how much we mean to you and coming to see the world class shows that help to put North Wales on the map."
