DENBIGH Wanderers were on cloud nine after their latest win - a 9-3 victory over Mynydd Isa.

The Wanderers made the trip to Flintshire in high spirits after a resounding 4-0 last time out at Penmaenmawr.

Denbigh had a strong, albeit small squad available with legendary DTFC frontman Mark Roberts and nomadic goal getter Andy Booker representing a formidable front two.

New managerial duo John Clayton and assistant Dai Webster couldn’t have wished for a better start as Denbigh were on the front foot from the off, favouring a direct style of play.

It was no surprise that the front two of Roberts and Booker bagged a goal apiece to put the visitors two goals up.

The home side reacted strongly however, with their energetic midfielders breaking through and giving the Denbigh centre half pairing of Graham Owen and Dai Kelly plenty to think about. The home side got their reward with a headed goal but the Wanderers reacted strongly to the set back and found themselves 4-1 up at the break with Roberts and Booker bagging another goal apiece.

Manager Clayton made a couple of changes at the break with Dai Kelly, Garry Knuppel and Gavin Evans given a well earned breather and Gerwyn Jones, Dai Webster and Liam Geoff Jones coming on in their place. Liam Geoff immediately caused chaos in the Mynydd defence and with the benefit of some clinical finishing from the robust frontman he deservedly bagged a hat-trick with Dewi Jones and Mark Roberts also on the scoresheet for the rampant visitors.

A couple of consolation goals for the home side failed to take the gloss off what was a good away performance for the Wanderers and the men in red can look forward to the forthcoming North East Wales Veterans League with a degree of confidence.

The Wanderers' next game is a game against Caerwys (H) Tuesday August 10.
