THE Denbigh Harries have continued to take part in races in Wales and beyond during the month of August.

Sunday, August 1 saw the running of the Denbigh Harriers organised Fairy Freckled Cow Trail Race around the Llyn Alwen Reservoir.

The race is over 10.7k distance with 177m ascent or 6.6 miles and 582ft. This race was also the North Wales Trail Championships and was well attended with over 100 entries from North Wales and the borders.

The club provided 29 volunteers to marshal, organise and administrate this race which had been postponed twice because of COVID restrictions.

In perfect conditions the runners set off from the above the public car park covering the undulating course in an anti clockwise direction around the reservoir to finish just before the dam wall.

The 1st man in 39.04 was previous winner Tomos Roberts from Meirionnydd RC, 2nd man in 39.20 was Joel Gomes from Wrexham Amateur AC and 3rd in 39.58 was Ian Edwards from Eryri Harriers. Denbigh Harriers’ own Shaun Hughes was 4th in 40.05 and was 3rd Senior Male in the NW Championships.

1st Woman in 44.39 was Joanne Henderson, 2nd in 45.1 was Rheagan Edwards from Deeside AAC, and 3rd in 45.53 was Tracy Rogers from Buckley Runners. In total 14 Harriers ran the race with some excellent performances and category prizes for 5 harriers in the race and the North Wales Championships.

Three Denbigh Harriers also took part in Anglesey's Cybi Coastal Marathon on Saturday August 7, with proceeds from going to the RNLI.

The only detour on route was up Holyhead Mountain via the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ giving competitors the opportunity to take in the stunning views.

Tony Wood was first Harrier home and finished in 4th position overall in an impressive time of 3:48:13. Mel Morris followed taking the 3rd Female position and finishing 16th overall in a brilliant time of 4:23:45.

Peter Lester-Owen also had a great run finishing 3rd in the M60 age category in a time of 5:30:18.
