A YOUNG coach from Denbighshire has been selected as ‘Rising Star of the Year’ for North East Wales at the Football Association of Wales’ 2021 Grassroots Football Awards.

2021 marks the 14th annual FAW Grassroots Football Awards, presented by McDonald’s, which recognises and rewards the amazing people, clubs and organisations driving grassroots football in Wales.

All National winners will be announced at the FAW Grassroots Football Awards that will be held in the Autumn.

Seren Williams, a coach for the under 14’s girls at Corwen Football Club, has been nominated as 'Rising Star of the Year' for the North East Wales region.

Seren is the lead coach for the FAW Huddle programme, aimed at providing fun football for girls aged between four and 11 years old.

At Corwen FC, they have more than 50 girls signed up and playing in the Huddle programme.

Seren, who is also a C licence coach, is 18 years old and has played for both the junior and senior ladies set-up at the club.

She was nominated for the prestigious prize by Corwen Juniors secretary Jane Claybrook.

Giving her reasons for choosing Seren, she said: "Seren is a huge inspiration and perfect example for girls who want to progress in football.

"Due to injury we asked her to come on board with the under 12 girls. The shy and quiet Seren took this position on and worked with only 11 girls throughout the whole season!

"Since then, Seren has progressed to a coaching position part time at Dragons Advanced Development Centre, Oswestry, and is soon looking to progress to her B licence.

"The quiet and shy Seren can now be heard over other coaches at sessions with girls who think she is the best coach ever!"
