DINBYCH and Rhuthun fought out an exciting Plate Competition match at Denbigh on Saturday, with the visitors coming out on top 48-10.

The hosts spent the first 15 minutes or so in the visitors half with no reward before Rhuthun, after withstanding the pressure, began to play some incisive rugby.

After 20 minutes, fly half Iestyn Davies scored the visitor’s first try and 15 minutes later wing Josh Wilson went over to double the advantage.

The hosts reduced the arrears with a try from Jack Jones, converted by Robin Cartwright just on half time and the first half finished with the game finely balanced at 10-7 to Rhuthun.

After the break, Rhuthun’s Harri Hughes and Gwion Richards scored two quick tries.

Although Dinbych reduced the damage again with a penalty kick, from then on Rhuthun began playing fast, open rugby, scoring a further four tries with Iestyn Davies getting his hat trick and No 8 Sion Donnelly and replacement Gethin Hughes also going over the whitewash with Richards kicking four conversions.

Dinbych put up a spirited defence but could not stem the visitor’s surge.

The final score in Dinbych was 48-10 to the in-form Rhuthun whose second and youth teams also won their matches away at Mold and Rhyl respectively.
