SOME days are perfect for fishing, a gentle breeze, a cloud covered sky and a warmth in the air.

These conditions aren’t always present at Llyn Brenig but last week provided some ideal circumstances.

Mr. Paul Lloyd and his boat partner Mark managed to have a great day’s fishing on Sunday, using an intermediate line and coming off the lake with a haul of 17 fish.

Success was also found using both sinking lines and lures along with top of the water dry fly fishing.

The bank fishermen certainly had the better of the fishing at the start of the week, but the boat fishing remained consistent throughout the week. The lake was heavily stocked before the Llanillar Air Flo competition, and it seems that many of these fish are now coming on to the feed.

The Brenig Arm was fishing well at the start of the week with fish feeding off the fry. By the end of the week the number of fish caught in the Arm dropped off with Sailing Club Bay taking over as a hot spot.

There are still some very sizeable fish being caught with a number of fish of 5lbs and over recorded. Mr. Chris Gee from Wrexham, for example, caught a lovely 5lb Rainbow and Mr. David Owen also landed a fine Rainbow weighing in at 5lbs 6oz.

However, the biggest Rainbow caught this week was a 6lb Rainbow caught by Mr. Dave Williams. The top bag for the week was recorded by Mr. David Roberts and tipped the scales at 20lbs 1oz.

The Breing team are now looking ahead to Winter and the start of the pike season. From October 1, the cost of a boat for all anglers will be £10.

Fishermen are also being offered free guided tours of the Llyn Brenig fish farm between 9am and 11am on September 22. If you would like to join, call 01490 389227.
