BALA and Penllyn Rotary are appealing for residents to donate shoes to a national appeal this month.

Shoe Aid is a national charity based in the UK who source and supply free footwear, so that no child or adult goes without.

Through its Steptember initiative, it collects shoes from all over the UK to donate to those who need them most.

In the UK, there are estimated to be thousands of men, women and children wearing footwear that is not fit for purpose.

On top of that, according to the Rotary, at least 280,000 homeless people have no shoes or have shoes that are falling apart.

That is why Bala and Penllyn Rotary club members are appealing for residents from their local area to donate their unwanted shoes.

A statement from the Rotary read: "In September, Shoe Aid will once again be launching Steptember and we in Bala and Penllyn Rotary club want to help with this challenge by asking you to donate clean pairs of old shoes that are still servicable.

"We ask that you put the clean shoes into a plastic bag, with the size and type of shoe on and deposit them into the receptacle outside of Y Gwyniad on Shoesdays/Tuesdays only as follows; 14th, 21st and 28th of September.

"Thank you from Bala Rotary on behalf of Shoe Aid and a big thank you to Barry and Sharon of Y Gwyniad for assisting us in our efforts to reduce footwear poverty."
