MS for North Wales Sam Rowlands has heaped praise onto a Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr farmer working hard to make his farming operation more environmentally friendly.
Mr Rowlands recently got to see first-hand how farm diversification is working in his region as he paid a visit to Llyr Jones' farm in the village, based near Corwen.
He said: “I welcomed the opportunity to visit Llyr Jones at his farm in Llanfihangel GM and see how he has managed to focus on farm diversification to make his operation more environmentally friendly and more economically resilient.
“Llyr has truly embraced ideas for diversification. He has a miniature hydro-power scheme which generates enough electricity to power the farm and have some electricity leftover to sell back into the National Grid.
“He also operates rotational cell grazing which allows grass to regrow quicker and with less worms in the soil leads to healthier cattle.
“I was impressed with his farming operation which includes Blodyn Aur, a range of cooking oil and salad dressing made from rapeseed, a recognised Welsh brand which sells in supermarkets.
“These days more than ever farmers are being encouraged to look at different ways to subsidise their farm income and congratulations must go to Llyr for implementing so many farm diversification ideas.”
