CARE WORKERS from across Denbighshire County Council will be showing they care by taking on their very own three peaks challenge.

A total of 15 staff will walk three of the toughest walks in Denbighshire, Gwaenysgor, Moel Famau and Castell Dinas Bran in Llangollen on September 25, with the peaks having a total height of 3,473 feet.

The aim of the walk is to highlight and celebrate the role of care workers in Denbighshire, supporting the WeCare Wales campaign run by Social Care Wales.

They will also be raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Zoe Gabb, a care and support worker at Gorwel Newydd, Rhyl, said: “We are all looking forward to taking on this challenge, it is going to be difficult but we all know how important it is.

“We have had an unprecedented 18 months and this challenge will be a time to celebrate achievements as well as raising awareness of a very rewarding career.

“During the pandemic there has been a community spirit in our teams and supporting our residents has been so important to us.

“Working in care is a rewarding career choice with lots of opportunities and I would encourage people to think about a role in the care sector.”

The group includes staff from different roles across Denbighshire including, carer workers, support workers, domestics, seniors and managers as well as members of the HR team.

Prestatyn resident Rob Gilmour, deputy team manager for Independence at Home, the Council’s in-house domiciliary care service, said: “We are doing this challenge to raise the profile of the excellent work care workers do in the community and in the process to raise much needed money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

“Care workers are special people who carry out a very important role which doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves.”

Cllr Bobby Feeley, the Council’s Lead Member for Well-being and Independence, said: “I would like to wish the best of luck to staff taking on this challenge.

“Our care staff are simply amazing, they face pressures and challenges, yet always have a ready smile and a desire to help others.

“Raising awareness of the hugely important work they do and supporting charity is a great way to thank care staff for their extraordinary efforts during the pandemic.”
