THE race for the Denbigh and District has well and truly hotted up over the last two weeks.
On Tuesday, August 7, with the league drawing to a close it was important for the top teams to win to stay in the hunt for top spot and the Golden A would have been looking for maximum points.
But, the Hand B had other ideas and won only their 5th game of the season 4-3, handing the Golden only their third loss all season to blow the title race wide open.
In the other games, the Masons were on form again destroying the Kentigern by a 6-1 score line for a second week in a row and the Hand A narrowly lost out 4-3 to the Golden B.
The match between the Plough and the Wings was postponed due to the Plough being unable to raise a team.
On the following Tuesday, September 14, there was a ‘golden’ opportunity for the Golden A to take a big step towards the championship once more and this time they took that opportunity by beating their fellow Lions 7-0.
The Wings needed a big win against the Hand A to keep on the heels of the Golden A at the top but missed the opportunity losing by the narrowest of scoreline 4-3 and the Hand B continued their blistering form since the restart by beating the Mason men 4-3.
Game of the season takes place on Tuesday as the championship is decided between Golden A v Wings with the Golden A needing only 2 games to win.
Last night’s fixtures were as follows:
Cons v Hand B
Golden A v Wings
Masons v Golden B
There was some sad news last week also as the Plough pulled out of the league.
