A SALTNEY charity wanting to set up a space that brings people together through woodwork need your votes to make its future dreams a reality.

Woodwork to Wellness, based near the Flintshire and Chester border, has members ranging from 16 to 90 with one thing in common – a love of woodwork!

Chair of Trustees for the charity, Aled Roberts, explained how the group offers an inclusive and safe environment for members to meet and collaborate.

They work together on projects that see furniture which would otherwise end up in landfill upcycled and given a second chance.

Mr Roberts says: “Our project is based on the national Men’s Shed movement which provides a space for 50+ Men in good health. However, we distinguish ourselves above by allowing members of all ages from 16+, sex and all abilities.

“We offer a more inclusive environment with members coming from a diverse range of backgrounds that support and promotes wellbeing through, mild exercise, creativity, social inclusion, diversion to everyday problems and offering a listening ear.”

The group also works on projects for the good of the community they live in too.

They have previously made litter pickers from recycled materials, as well as planter pots and signs which were donated to community groups.

Members do also volunteer time to complete household repairs and gardening tasks for vulnerable members in the community.

Mr Roberts adds: “A number of our tools are of a hobbyist grade, previously owned or donated. We would invest the money in improving the infrastructure that support our members.

“We would be able to invest in purchasing new and more industrial grade hard wearing tools that will improve safety/reliability, reduce maintenance, faults and increase availability of tools to wider number of members.”

With enough funding, the group chair says they would be able to get more advanced equipment.
