UNBEATEN Denbigh Town are up to second in the Ardal NorthWest League after coming out on top in a six-goal thriller v Saltney Town on Friday night.

Dewi Llion's side won 4-2 under the Central Park floodlights in a brilliant contest in tier three.

Saltney were making their first ever visit to Denbigh and were buoyed by recent success of reaching the last 16 of the JD Welsh Cup.

With only five minutes played Denbigh had the lead when Jacob Barratt sent in an inch perfect cross from the left wing to the back post with Jake Walker on the end to head home.

Denbigh continued to press on the visitor’s goal and had plenty of possession, but Saltney looked dangerous on the break too.

Stuart Griffiths in the Town’s goal pulled off an amazing double save to thwart a Saltney attack.

Soon after, Denbigh's Billy Holmes sent in a looping cross from his left wing to the far post and found Lee Davey whose shot hit the post.

Right on half time, Denbigh were split by a long through ball which fell into the path of Tom Booth who rounded Griffiths and shot into an empty net for 1-1.

On the hour mark, Denbigh had the lead again. Lee Davey sent in a brilliant cross from the right wing and Walker rose highest to head home his second goal of the game.

With Denbigh now on top , more and more chances were coming their way. Sion Jones had a long range effort that just went over the bar. Sam Tate found Mark Roberts with a perfect through ball only for the striker’s shot to be well saved by Cooke.

A frantic end to the match saw three goals scored in the final five minutes.

Denbigh made it 3-1 through a Stuart Jones header on 86mins before Saltney responded immediately through a penalty converted by Ryan McLeary to set up a tense finish.

The decisive goal came in the 92nd minute when Denbigh's Sam Tate scored a sensational lob from 30 yards out.

Denbigh will now face another top of the table clash, this time against Porthmadog next Saturday (2.30pm ko).
