CORWEN Day Nursery has made a paw-some new addition recently - in the form of an adorable Dachshund puppy.

3-month-old Wilbert, who belongs to staff member Sophie Moore, enjoyed his first day at the nursery on Wednesday, October 6.

Since then, kids and staff alike there have 'fallen in love' with the pup.

Nursery owner Carmen Roberts Davenport said: "We had looked into the possibility of getting a pet for the nursery, either a rabbit or a dog, as it helps teach children about responsibility and can also be great for helping them with communication skills.

"It just so happened that Wilbert's owner Sophie had recently adopted him, and did not want him to spend days alone at home, and so there was a compromise.

"He has had all his injections and has been spending his days here, mostly sleeping in his bed in the utility room."

The older children have been helping to care for Wilbert by taking him for walks under Sophie’s close supervision.

Carmen added: "Caring for a pet has many educational benefits and can contribute to a child’s self- esteem and self- confidence. Good relationships with pets can also help in developing communication, compassion and empathy.

"We all absolutely adore Wilbert and love having him at the nursery with us."
