THE roar of rally car engines returned to a North Wales town for the first time in nearly 20 years

Rally Revival, which took place in Wrexham on Friday and Saturday, recreated memories of past RAC rally time controls and of course the years when the town hosted the Vauxhall Rally of Wales.

Building on the highly acclaimed 2020 running, which saw such greats as Jimmy McRae, Derek Ringer, Louise Aitken-Walker and Nicky Grist enjoy a unique atmosphere the like of which hasn't been seen since the glory days.

Friday saw crews based at the Ty Pawb in the centre of town from 3pm, which gave fans a chance to view the cars and meet the crews.

It was followed early evening start in Queens Square, where crews were flagged away before a gruelling evening of tests.

The, on Saturday, there was a full days tour with runs at many venues creating a feel very much like the traditional Sunday leg of the old RAC Rally.

Ahead of the event, director Bryn Pierce said: "We're delighted to welcome everyone to Rally Revival 2021 in association with Cooper Tires, which aims to rekindle memories and create new ones.

"To have on board such enthusiastic partners coupled with stunning venues for this second running was something we'd hoped for as the entrants will be in for a treat.

"After a successful 2020 event we hope to bring you even more new memories."

On Facebook, Wrexham resident Pete Houlding said: "Fab to see all the cars go past my house from Wrexham the sounds as they drove off not felt since the RAC rally went past many years ago."
