VENISON from Corwen's Rhug Estate played a key role as the Prime Minister rolled out the red carpet for business leaders including Bill Gates as he tries to secure billions of pounds worth of investment in the UK.

Jellied eels will be served by a Michelin-starred chef tasked with delivering a menu “showcasing the best of British produce” before the Queen hosts a reception at Windsor Castle.

The Global Investment Summit will take place on Tuesday at London’s Science Museum, where the PM Boris Johnson will seek to drum up international investment and support for his green plans.

Following a speech, he will sit down with Mr Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, who is advocating technological solutions to tackle the climate crisis.

Downing Street said the Queen and other senior royals will host a reception at Windsor for the delegates, which Mr Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak are also expected to attend.

Business leaders will be greeted first by high-level dinners, with the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss hosting around 20 individuals at Downing Street on Monday evening.

Clare Smyth, the first woman chef in the UK to get three Michelin stars, will cater that dinner, which Mr Johnson’s spokesman said will feature “a menu showcasing the best of British produce”.

He said canapes of jellied eels, chicken liver parfait, and pumpkin and white truffle gougere will be served before a starter of potato and roe.

Venison from the Rhug Estate near Corwen, prepared with a 16-year-old Lagavulin whisky, will be followed by a dessert of lemon and pear meringue.

Mr Sunak will host a separate dinner in the City for around 300 business and industry figures.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “The aim of the summit is to secure billions of pounds of new international investment and support the PM’s plan for a green industrial revolution.”
