DRINK and drug drivers were caught and arrested by North Wales Police (NWP) in Denbighshire over the weekend.

Arrests were made and vehicles were seized as officers continued to crack down on incidents across North Wales.

During what NWP say was a 'busy weekend' for them, the following are examples of what took place in the county:

  • Vehicle seizure in Rhyl on Friday (no licence, no insurance)
  • Stop check of a vehicle on the A525 at Rhewl on Saturday due to the driver not wearing a seatbelt. A large quantity of cannabis was found so driver arrested. He also tested positive for cannabis at the roadside.
  • Man tested positive for cannabis in Abergele on Sunday

On top of that, officers also dealt with a minor injury 3-vehicle collision on the A55 at St Asaph and a serious injury collision in Prestatyn on Saturday which saw a biker taken to hospital.

A statement from NWP's Roads Policing Unit read: "Any drivers who fail the roadside drugs test are arrested and taken to police custody where a sample of their blood is taken. The blood is then sent away to be examined and if illegal levels of a drug are found, that motorist faces being prosecuted for drug driving."

Between January and September this year North Wales Police has made 716 drug drive arrests and 537 drink drive arrests.

The NWP statement added: "We'll continue to target those who put their lives, and other innocent road users at risk.
