A DOCTOR and her team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital have been praised by a patient.

The patient praised the team's expertise and level of care on BCUHB Best, a Facebook group celebrating success stories in health treatment the Betsi Cadwalader University Health Board area in North Wales.

The unnamed patient wanted to share the good experience they had during diagnosis and treatment at the ENT department at Wrexham Maelor Hospital under the care of Viktorija Petraitiene.

They posted: “I saw a Miss Viktorija Petraitiene, who immediately diagnosed that I had contracted a basal cell carcinoma within my right ear; she immediately offered treatment and went on to fully explain what had to be done; reassuring me and putting me at ease.

"I then received a letter from her and attended the hospital soon after being met initially by day ward staff; I observed they were all caring and hard working people going about their work proficiently and checking I was ok regularly until my time came to be ushered to theatre.

"I was very apprehensive and did not know fully what to expect! I was taken to theatre by a young lady who was kind and put me at ease, then met by it seems a whole team of good people who were going to look after every aspect of the proceedings whilst I was undergoing surgery."

The patient went on to say that she was so relaxed she even fell asleep during the operation.

They added: "Viktorija quickly organised the sequence of events explaining to me what was to happen along the way. From the outset I felt reassured warm, comfortable and looked after, to the point that although I had only received a local anaesthetic I actually had a nap during the middle of the operation!"

"The outcome has been totally worthwhile…I would therefore like to place on record in particular my sincere thanks to Miss Viktorija Petraitiene, and also the theatre staff and ward staff who were on duty that day.

"It was quite a humbling experience to be placed in the care of such caring professionals and reinforced how very fortunate we all are in this country to be able to source such a first class service and level of care.”
