A FLINTSHIRE man who carried out a violent robbery because he thought his victim was carrying cannabis has been jailed for 10 years.

Kieran Sendall, 33, of Oakfield Road, Hawarden was sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Friday after he was convicted by a jury for robbery and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

The court heard an extended victim impact statement from Sendall's victim Cameron Rushden, who stated that he he did not have the full use of his left hand since the savage attack on him in Oakenholt in May this year.

Sentencing Sendall, Judge Rhys Rowlands said that the attack was planned and executed by a defendant with a 'history of violence and dishonesty', and criticised his defence that he had been 'set up by enemies'.

He added: "Earlier this week you were convicted by a jury of robbery and GBH.

"The victim is a young man who was attacked. You demanded he give you his rucksack and struck him many times with a short metal pole, probably a hiking stick that was later found in your car.

"You made off with the rucksack and he was left covered in blood and sustained many injuries.

"There is high culpability for the first offence as you used a weapon and caused great harm.

"You were driven to this isolated lane by a woman, you weren’t there by accident, you were there to rob him because you thought he had cannabis.

"Several blows were struck, when he was on the ground and vulnerable. He had bruises to his chest and injuries to his wrist and he needed stitches in his head.

"He continues to experience problems in his hands and his sleep is affected by flashbacks.

"This is not out of character.

"You told the jury you had a reputation around Flint and that’s why you got into trouble because your enemies set you up but you used this defence in 2019.

"But the fact is you thought the victim had cannabis and you planned to steal it."

Sendall was given a 10 years for the robbery and was given a concurrent six-year sentence for the GBH.
