RGC 1404 kick off the Indigo Group Premiership as they travel to Llandovery on Saturday.

After the East/West Cup split all sides will now play each other either home or away in a league format.

Both sides last played each other in January last year, when the Drovers won 35-29 at Eirias.

Head to heads over the past five games have Llandovery as the firm favourites with four wins victories and RGC with one. That RGC win came in October 2018 when the Gogs won 32-24 at Church Bank – Afon Bagshaw, Tom Hughes, Dion Jones and Danny Cross scored the tries.

But the Gogs have picked up form in recent months under head coach Ceri Jones and full-back Afon Bagshaw believes his side are ready to step up to the challenge.

“We are coming into the league season in a fairly good place, with results and performances improving from when we kicked off the cup games in September,” he said.

“Having a couple of weeks off can either be a plus or a minus, and that will be determined by how we play on Saturday.

“Starting the League campaign in December also feels different and we have a new set of challenges playing the teams from the West now. Historically games against Llandovery have been high scoring and open but results have not gone in our favour.

“All teams will be focused on getting a good start and putting some points on the table as early as possible so the first two games could set the tone for the season ahead.

“As a group we know what is needed to win games in the Premiership especially on the road – but is about making sure we hit those levels of performance to get the result and that is down to us.”
