SINCE 2016, Corwen Day Nursery has been running its employee of the year award.

An employee of the month scheme was introduced that year as part of the staff wellbeing programme.

Sophie Moore, who runs the kitchen, was reemployed back at the nursery in 2020 and received the award as 2021 employee of the year after doing an excellent job of running the whole nursery in November when owner Carmen Roberts Davenport, the manager and toddler room leader were off with Covid.

Carmen said: “I believe that to be awarded employee of the year is a huge achievement and what the whole team should be aspiring for.

"It was whilst I was off with Covid, and a parent was speaking so highly of Sophie that prompted me to consider Sophie for employee of the year when she referred to Sophie as a baptism of fire!”

Carmen received lots of lovely comments from parents about Sophie, including: “Sophie is always cheerful and easy to talk to no matter the subject. She welcomes the children in with a warm smile and instantly makes them feel safe.

"Sophie is patient and has been incredible in supporting and caring for my children who absolutely adore her.”

Carmen added: “Sophie truly deserves this award because she is an outstanding member of the team who is always happy as well as being so hard working and reliable.

"It is apparent that Sophie is highly thought of by all the parents and the children adore her.

"I am very lucky to have such a proficient, caring, and dedicated professional within my organisation who is a massive team player.

"It was such a relief to have Sophie at the nursery when I was so poorly with Covid.”

Sophie’s response after receiving her gift and award was: “I was really touched to hear what our lovely parents had said about me, they have been very kind.

"It was a lovely surprise. I just give 100 per cent every day and do what I can to help the team and I love working at the nursery.”
