RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 747 prime lambs £130 / 314.6ppk and 284 ewes to £140.

Prime lambs (auctioneer - Rich Lloyd):

As expected, on a slipping trade, there was a reduced entry of 727 prime hoggets.

Trade on the day was better than anticipated and a continued demand at a price.

Welsh hoggets were much the same with 30kgs achieving 240-250ppk and Welsh 34kgs at £87.

Heavy hoggets hit the worst with £125 a cap on most with the very best up to £130.

A cracking entry for the time of year with an entry of 116 store cattle forward.

A brisk trade and some excellent cattle forward.

Heifers:

Top price of £1310 went to IM &IG Jones, Llaethwryd for a 25 month Lim.

There was a full house of calves!

Many farming men stayed away in order to prepare the sheds for housing.

Firm trade on the day with those younger sorts looking best sold.

Top price went to Jones, Plas yn Rhos for a BB bull selling to £370 with others from Hughes, Ffrith Isa selling to £310.

Weanlings (auctioneer - Dafydd Parry):

Once again buyers moving from calves to weanlings for ease of management.

Plenty of demand for all weanlings with a good entry seen.

Top price goes to Williams, Caenog selling 8 month old Lim bullocks to £1050 with heifers to £955.

10 month old Charolais bullocks from Deian Williams, Hendre to £760.

8 month old Lim heifer from Lewis, Meini Llwydion sold to £760.

Other prices: 10 month old BB bullocks to £700.

A total of 138 couples forward with a brisk trade throughout, younger lamb couples harder to place, but stronger couples still making a premium.
