NEW gates in memory of a rugby club stalwart have been opened in the Vale of Clwyd.

On Saturday, the new gates at Clwb Rygbi Dinbych were officially opened.

They have been erected in memory of Peter Minshull, one of the club's most committed and dedicated members, who died .

Peter had been an integral member of the club from very near the beginning of its existence in 1977.

Club president Tegid Phillips said as a player, he was a captain and coach’s dream; he was a regular trainer, he was always available, no matter where the game was being played, no matter what position he’d been selected and no matter for which team.

That was to such an extent that in one season he played for the first, second, third and fourth teams!

Even during his playing days, he was an active member off the field, involving himself in numerous activities and projects. Possibly, the highest profile of these was in 1983-4, when he took responsibility for the building of the original clubhouse on Caeau Les Phillips.

More recently, he was the club's coach coordinator and for the past 25 years, he was the club’s official touch judge. Across all clubs in North Wales, he was well respected for his honesty and integrity.

The official opening of the gates was undertaken by Peter's widow, Marilyn.
