A ROAD closure brought on by Storm Franklin has caused traffic chaos for the second time in four days in the Llangollen area.

Motorists driving through the area face a 15-mile diversion due to a road closure in both directions on the A483.

On Friday, February 18, it was gridlock in both Llangollen and Chirk as the towns were hit by traffic being diverted off the A483.

The Dee Viaduct was closed due to Storm Eunice, meaning traffic was diverted via the A5 through Llangollen and Chirk.

The Newbridge Road landslip means there are few alternative routes available, which led to traffic building up in the towns.

Four days later on Monday, February 21, a similar situation arose in Llangollen as the A483 was closed in both directions between Ruabon and Chirk due to high winds.

Residents on the Llangollen and District Noticeboard are again calling for the B5605 Newbridge Road to be repaired as soon as possible.

A petition launched by Cefn Councillor Sonia Benbow-Jones calling for funding to be made available to Wrexham Council to repair the road has so far collected over 2,500 signatures.

On the petition page, cllr Benbow-Jones states: "The B5605 provides critical road links between communities in Newbridge, Cefn Mawr, Rhosymedre, Ruabon and also Chirk to the South.

"This is causing major disruption to local residents and businesses and also provides critical diversionary route from the A483.

Denbighshire Free Press:

PIC: Traffic at a standstill in Llangollen this morning.

"In the event of closures on or planned works on the A483, it means a fifteen mile division via Llangollen which is unacceptable."

Traffic Wales confirmed that the part of the A483 which had been closed between Ruabon and Chirk was re-opened at around 1pm on Monday.
