COMPETITORS stormed to the finishing line as a popular Ruthin event returned.

Sunday saw the Ruthin 5k and 10k races taking place, organised by Bespoke Fitness and Events.

Despite the stormy conditions, there was a terrific turnout for the races.

Organiser Ffion White said: "Big thanks to everyone who participated in the Ruthin 5k and 10k.

"We enjoyed being back in the events game after so long out.

"Despite the storm and awful conditions, was great to see so many running.

Prestatyn Running Club's Luke Bodman triumphed in the 5k event thanks to his time of 19 minutes and 44 seconds.

Stephen Mills was the runner-up in 20.25, with Denbigh Harriers' member Gareth Jones third in 21.21.

Phillippa Steele, of Stoke Masters Marathoners, was fourth and the first woman in 21.53, closely followed by Denbigh Harrier Emma Collins, who was fifth in 22.20.

There was Vale of Clwyd success in the 10k race.

Shaun Hughes, of the Denbigh Harriers club, crossed the line in first position in a time of 36 minutes and 27 seconds.

This was more than three minutes ahead of second-placed Tomos Foulkes, who finished in 39.41.

Completing the top-three was Evan Roberts in 40.51.
