PUPILS in Denbighshire won't be missing out on an Eisteddfod experience even though they can't attend it in person.

Instead, pupils at Denbigh's Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn will join their counterparts at Ysgol Tir Morfa, in Rhyl, to produce an online Special School's Eisteddfod.

Students from primary, secondary and sixth form classes have contributed to the event in subjects including science, literacy, music, dance and design technology.

This is a great demonstration of how children in special schools can access the new curriculum in Wales as well as demonstrating what students can do as opposed to what they find difficult.

"This is the first Eisteddfod of its kind in North Wales and we hope to develop it to include more special schools over the next few years," said Adele Thomas, a teacher at Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn.

It was back in 2020 that the idea of the Eisteddfod was first formed, which would allow students the opportunity to share all the wonderful skills that they have in many areas of the curriculum.

Inspired by the Special Olympics, Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn asked Ysgol Tir Morfa if they would like to be involved in the inaugural Special Schools Eisteddfod. Both schools have been working hard this year to contribute work from many areas of the curriculum.

It is not a competitive event and it will simply be an exhibition of the student’s terrific talents.

The theme of this Eisteddfod is 'The Keys to The Future', which was chosen as a way of looking forward to a brighter future following the few difficult years that we have been through.

It is hoped in future years that the Eisteddfod will be able to incorporate live exhibitions and performances.
