THE Brazilian national anthem has been played prior to many World Cup finals.

Now, the famous anthem has been heard at a Vale of Clwyd sporting venue.

Denbigh Town's Central Park ground was the venue as Wales hosted the South American country in the under-16s UEFA Development Tournament on Saturday.

A close contest eventually saw Brazil come out on top by a 2-1 margin.

"It's the biggest thing that's ever happened at the club," said Denbigh Town FC chairman Shon Powell.

"It was incredible here on Saturday, having the Brazil team here and hearing the national anthem."

There was a huge crowd in excess of 1,000 at Central Park for the occasion, with Mr Powell adding: "There's never been so many people in this ground ever.

"Wales did amazingly well and could have won the game and they were fantastic.

"The feedback has been great.

"We had 35-40 volunteers here on Saturday helping out.

"Everyone got involved."

Further international action is on show at Central Park on Monday evening as Spain play Brazil in the next match.

Then, on Thursday evening (April 14), Wales will return to take on Spain.

Kick-off for all the games is 6pm, with gates at the ground opening at 4.30pm.

"It will stand in the memory of the club for many, many years," said Mr Powell.

"One of the Brazil or Spain lads is likely to lift aloft the World Cup in 10 years' time."
