TWO Denbigh farmers have raised more than £2,400 for Cancer Research UK after donating profits from the sale of a flock of ewes.

Emyr Roberts and Tracy Salisbury donated five per cent of the value of four ewes, as well as the full value of the fifth ewe in January 2021 and 10 per cent of the value of four ewes as well as the full value of the fifth, which sold for £1,450 to David Trow, of Newtown, back in February.

Members of the Charmoise Hill Sheep Society, Emyr and Tracy decided to donate the money to Cancer Research UK as lots of family members and friends have suffered from cancer.

Emyr said: “We want the success we experienced with the flock to benefit the research into the disease.”

In total over the two years, Emyr, Tracy and Ruthin Farmers Auction Company Ltd raised £2,408.29 for life-saving research to help more men, women and children in Wales and across the UK survive the disease.

Nadine Isaacs, Cancer Research UK’s local fundraising manager for North Wales, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Emyr, Tracy and Ruthin Farmers Auction decided to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

“Cancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer. However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would not be able to fund our research.”

With around 19,200 people diagnosed with cancer every year in Wales, Cancer Research UK is working every day to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease to bring forward our ambition of 3 in 4 people surviving their cancer by 2034.
