TRIBUTES have been paid to a 'loyal, brave and strong' police dog who passed away recently.

Police Dog Luther was part of the Cheshire and North Wales Police Dogs team and had helped catch many suspects according to the force.

The team announced his death on Tuesday, April 12.

Officers described him as 'an amazing teammate'.

The statement from Cheshire and North Wales Police Dogs team read: "Its with a heavy heart that we have to let you know that one of our serving PDs has gone over the rainbow bridge.

"PD Luther was an amazing teammate to Steph his handler, he was loyal strong brave & caught many suspects.He will be missed by Steph & his family. Run free Lu Bear."

Paying tribute in the comments section of their post, one Facebook user wrote: "What a gorgeous boy! Than you for your service Luther. Now run free boy, and hugs to your family."

Another added: "Thank you for your service PD Luther. Rest easy  your work is done. Condolences to your partner, family and colleagues at this time."

A third said: "Omg such sad news. PD Luther was a phenomenal dog with the force. He was gorgeous & tenacious. Thoughts are with Steph at this time."
