RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 65 heifers to £1440; 92 steers to £1500; 111 calves to £390; 35 stirks to £850; five OTMs to £1591.20 / 234ppk; 84 store lambs to £103; 244 ewes and lambs to £280 and pet lambs to £49.

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

It was a good show of cattle again with 197 forward and once again a cracking a trade.

Heifers (64):

Top price of £1440 went to EW & NA Davies, Cynlas for a 24 month Lim.
19 month Lim £1390; 22 month Lim £1300; 18 month B £1215; 23 month BB £1120; 17 month AA £880; 19 month Hereford £820.

Younger heifers: 11 month Lim £1030; 11 month BB £750; 13 month Lim £980; Overall average £973.75.

Steers:

Top price of £1500 went to D S Parry Jones, Pentre for a 23 month BB.
24 month £1410; 22 month Lim £1395; 22 month Her £1280; 15 month Char £1260; 25 month Sim £1270; 21 month AA £1140; 15 month Char £1260.

Younger steers: 13 moth Char £1220; 12 month Lim £1110; 11 month Char £965; Overall average £1087.61.

More cattle expected next week along with show potential cattle.

A full house with a firm trade to match.

Top price went jointly to Roberts, Bodynys and Jones, Rhydwen selling a BB bull to £390 and Lim bull to £390.

Others: BB heifers to £355; Lim heifers £350; Stabiliser bull £300; Stabiliser heifer £280; AA bull £340; Hereford bull £275.

More are required next week.

There will be a dairy cattle sale on April 28, with entries invited.

Weanlings (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):

A blistering trade again this week with many more farmers now seeking younger cattle.

Top price went jointly to Jones, Maes Gwyn and Jones, Cerrigellgwm selling 10 month old heifers to £850 and 10 month old Char heifers to £850.

Others: 5 month old AA bulls £570; 6 month old BB bullock £720; 5 month old bulls £590; 10 month old AA bullock £800; 11 month old Sim heifers.

More are required on a weekly basis.

Ewe and lamb couples (auctioneer-Paul Roberts):

A good trade with quality couples forward.

Top price of £280 went to C P Goulding, The Yews for Texel twins.

3875 total head of sheep sold, being 347 prime lambs, 2876 prime hoggets and 652 ewes.

Spring lambs returned an SQQ of 336ppk or £130 per head average all through with top of the range from £143 to £172!
