RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 749 prime hoggets to £129 / 302.6ppk and 531 ewes to £188.

Prime hoggs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

After a very busy week in livestock markets and a falling trade, an expected slightly reduced entry of 749 prime hoggets was forward.

A satisfying SQQ of 248ppk on a bank holiday sale.

Predominantly hill bred hoggets on show with 186 from 23kg-28kg.

Market average weight 35.4kg, averaging 246ppk through and through.

Another excellent entry of store cattle with 314 cattle forward.

Demand continues to be strong in all sections. Larger cattle continue to fetch a premium, especially those warmer cattle. With young suckler bred cattle also keenly sought after.

Top price of £1325 went to G Robson, Ty’n y Mynydd for a 21 month Lim.
