A RUTHIN restaurant has closed with immediate effect.

Last month The Myddelton Grill, on St Peter's Square announced it would shut at the end of May as the landlord of the building is in the process of selling it.

But earier this week, the restaurant announced it has now closed early and with immediate effect.

A statement on The Myddelton Grill's Facebook page said: "Unfortunately, we have made a business decision to close the Myddelton with immediate affect.

"Due to overhead costs increasing by nearly 50 per cent, and lack of sales due to only having downstairs of the resturant open, whilst trying to sell everything, we have made the sensible decision to close the resturant.

"We will be in and out of the building over the coming weeks to sell everything, and have some stock to clear, so keep an eye on our Facebook page for the deals."

It added: "We are absolutely gutted it has come to this, but it would be irresponsible of us to continue the way we are, the team have backed our decision, and they will still help us over the coming weeks.

Once again thank you for the support these last few years, we will post again when we finally leave the building."

Dozens of people replied to the post expressing both messages of sadness and goodwill.

One person said: "Absolutely heartbroken. Food was delicious and the service was amazing.

"Thank you Emma and Gav (owners) for all your hard work. We will miss you."

Another added: "This makes me so sad - my husband and I popped into your restaurant after getting married in Ruthin and have been back most years on our anniversary, the food has always been amazing.

"Wishing you and your staff best of luck in the future."
