RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 11 prime lambs to £144 / 353.1ppk; 674 prime hoggets to £137 / 304.9ppk; 147 ewes to £158 and 62 store pigs to £150.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

The first Friday show of lambs of the season and a very satisfactory average of 346.7ppk.

Prime hoggs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

Numbers now slowly decreasing in all centres but still a fair show for the time of year and also an excellent trade with an SQQ of 272ppk.

Super Lights to 228.6ppk av 209.6ppk; Lights to 283.3ppk av 247.5ppk; Standards to 311.8ppk av 271.4ppk; Mediums to 304.9ppk av 272.7pppk; Heavies to 297.8ppk av 261.1ppk; Overweights to 252.3ppk av 226.4ppk; SQQ 266.5ppk; Overall average 272ppk.

Cull ewes (auctioneer-Paul Roberts):

Texel to £158; Mules to £150; Ryland to £118; Crossbred to £110; Cheviot to £89; Speckled to £86; Welsh to £70; Overall average £81.17.

Store pigs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

A much improved trade on all store pigs with 62 forward and 100 per cent clearance.

Best of the well bred weaners in much better demand and ranging from £28 to £57, others £2 to £20.

Store pigs and butchers pigs from £80 to £126 and as always gilts commanding the best of the trade.

Half a dozen barren sows forward with demand sharper, but nowhere near what they need to be, nevertheless nice to see loyal vendors smiling.

Top price of the day went to R G Thomas, Y Wern achieving £150 for a Pietrain boar.

Top priced weaner went to R Griffiths, Fedwen, at £57.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 102 heifers to £1350; 101 steers to £1620; 148 calves to £380; 42 stirks to £970; 14 OTMs to £2247.70 / 247ppk; 33 store lambs to £99; 355 ewes and lambs to £305; 15 pet lambs to £17 and one breeding bull to 3000gns. 

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

A full yard again with 207 store cattle forward on the day.

A younger entry forward in general and slightly more selective in purchasing. Some cattle back on the week but still some exceeding expectations.

Heifers (102):

Heifers topped at £1350 from GW & B Evans, Pen y Geulan for a 12 month Lim heifer.

Some other prices: 21 month Lim £1300; 25 month Char £1260; 24 month AA £1140; 21 month BB £1125; 22 Blonde Aquatine £1090; 20 month BB £1045.

Younger heifers: 13 month Lim £1230; 12 month BB £1030; 11 month Char £910; Overall average £860.10.

Steers (101):

Steers topping at £1660 from CW Jones, Mertyn Ucha for a 27 month BB.
25 month Char £1620; 20 month Lim £1465; 23 month BB £1420; 19 month Her £910; 18 month AA £950; 22 month Blonde Aquatine £1000.

Younger steers: 15 month Char £1205; 12 month Lim £1200; 10 month BB £1155; 15 month Sim £1440; 9 month British Short Horn £790; Overall average £964.74.

Barren cows remain a flying trade with 14 forward and more required.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 815 prime lambs to £195 / 506.7ppk; 1281 prime hoggets to £155 / 341.5ppk and 412 ewes to £182.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

A total of 813 spring lambs forward to an SQQ of 355ppk or £136.50 all through.

424 standards av (36.9kg) returning the best of the trade at 361ppk with 342 mediums (41kg) at £43/head.

Trade for the top end lambs on fire with many vendors rewarded with pries from £160 to £195/head.
