A motorcyclist was seriously injured following a road traffic collision in Glan-yr-Afon, near Corwen.

The collision involved a red and grey RIEJU motorcycle, a silver Peugeot 308 and an ambulance, on the A494 shortly before 4.40pm on Monday.

The emergency services attended and the male motorcyclist was airlifted to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool with life-threatening injuries.

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes is appealing for witnesses.

He said: “We are urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision and who are yet to speak to us, or anybody who may have seen the motorcycle being ridden prior to the collision to come forward.

“Anybody who was travelling along the A494 around the time of the collision and who may have dashcam footage is also urged to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road was closed to allow officers from the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit to carry out their preliminary inquiries, and re-opened shortly after 10pm.

"We’d like to thank the motoring public and local community for their patience.”

Jonathan Sweet, head of service at the Welsh Ambulance Service, said: “At approximately 4.38pm this afternoon (Monday), one of our emergency ambulances was involved in a collision with a motorcycle on the A494 near Glan Yr Afon while en route to a 999 call.

"We sent a rapid response car and a second emergency ambulance to the scene, where crews were also supported by a duty operations manager, Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service colleagues and an air ambulance from North West Ambulance Service.

"Our crew was unharmed and no patients were on board the vehicle at the time of the collision.

"The motorcyclist was airlifted to Aintree Hospital. Our thoughts are with the patient."
