RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 57 prime lambs to £135 / 338ppk; 601 prime hoggets to £136 / 282.9ppk and 206 ewes to £164.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

A total of 57 spring lambs were forward to an average of 311ppk, with the best of the springers to 338ppk from R G Roberts & Co, Berwynfa.

More spring lambs will be required every Friday from now on as the hoggs dry up in numbers.

The warm weather and light showers encouraged those buyers seeking younger, grazing cattle which resulted in a firm trade.

Heifers topped at £1310 from E W Evans, Summerhill with a 23 month Lim.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,046 prime lambs to £190 / 486.8ppk; 1,351 prime hoggets to £145 / 326.3ppk and 442 ewes to £168.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

A total of 1,046 spring lambs to an SQQ of 347ppk and overall of 345ppk.

Similar to the previous week with the fresh looking lambs still commanding a super trade constantly from £160-£190/head and it would be true to say that the under 40kg lambs look best sold again, with standard weight lambs (av 37kg) returning the best of the average at 349ppk.
