VALE of Clwyd group members have taken a trip back in time thousands of years.

Dr Erin Lloyd Jones gave a fascinating presentation to the Denbigh and District Probus Club this month covering archaeology during the past 2,500 years.

She found interest in archaeology from an early age as she was surrounded by history in the Ceiriog Valley.

After university, she was employed as visitor services manager at Erddig Hall, near Wrexham.

Inspired by original menus from the owners, she hosted an historic banquet in the grounds as part of Wrexham Food Festival.

Erin has also worked on the Heritage Lottery-funded Heather and Hillforts project investigating six iron age hill forts and she showed aerial photographs of the sites.

The largest was Penycloddiau.

She spoke of a small mound on top where a slate was found giving details of the name of a Canadian soldier.

Erin also mentioned objects from a 2,500-year-old hoard in a Holyhead peat bog. One item was a chain used to secure slaves and hundreds of items are at the National Museum of Wales.
