The Welsh Conservatives have welcomed the news that Wrexham has become the newest city in Wales in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Wrexham is the newest city in Wales, extending on its status as the largest town in North Wales, and has been joined by seven other towns in the UK and in overseas territories.

Wrexham Business Professionals are thrilled to see the town become a city, after backing the campaign for more than a decade.

Commenting on the news, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Minister for North Wales, Darren Millar MS said:

“I’m very pleased to see that Wrexham has been named Wales' newest city, getting the recognition it deserves.

“From Wrexham Football Club to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Wrexham has something for everyone, and I wish it all the best as it seeks to become the UK City of Culture in 2025.

“Labour ministers in Cardiff Bay now need to work with the UK Government to deliver on the Conservatives' levelling-up agenda and unleash North Wales' potential.”
